Certum Trusted SSL Wildcard Certificate

Certum SSLCertum Trusted SSL Wildcard is an advanced SSL/TLS certificate that allows you to secure both the main domain and an unlimited number of subdomains within a single installation. It is a Wildcard certificate, which means that it allows you to secure the entire domain structure with a single certificate, without the need to have separate certificates for each subdomain. By using the asterisk (*) symbol in the domain name, the certificate covers all subdomains at this level, e.g. a certificate issued for *.yourdomain.pl will cover both the main domain yourdomain.pl and subdomains, such as mail.yourdomain.pl, shop.yourdomain.pl and others. Certum Trusted SSL Wildcard supports the latest TLS protocols, including TLS 1.2 and TLS 1.3, which guarantees the highest level of network communication security. The certificate offers strong encryption using the RSA algorithm with keys up to 4096 bits and support for Elliptic Curves (ECC), which ensures optimal performance and higher level of security with lower computational requirements. The certificate also supports Perfect Forward Secrecy (PFS), which secures future communication even in case of private key compromise.

Certum Trusted SSL Wildcard is fully compliant with CA/Browser Forum requirements, which ensures its acceptance by all major web browsers, such as Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Edge, Safari and Opera, as well as by operating systems and mobile devices. The certificate issuance process is based on validation of the organization’s identity and verification of domain ownership. In the case of Wildcard, validation is done via DNS record or authorized email, which increases the security of the authorization process. The certificate includes a financial guarantee of up to €400,000, which protects the certificate owner in case of any irregularities related to its issuance. Certum Trusted SSL Wildcard is characterized by an easy installation process and integration with various server platforms and allows for quick scaling, especially for companies managing extensive domain systems. This is a certificate especially recommended for companies that require a high level of security and reliability while simplifying the management of SSL certificates for many subdomains.

Dynamic Secure Site Seal

Certum Site SealThe Certum Trusted SSL Wildcard security seal is a graphic trust mark that can be placed on a website to inform visitors about the high level of security applied to the website. This seal confirms that the website uses an SSL/TLS certificate issued by Certum, one of the recognized providers of certification services, and that communication with the server is encrypted using strong cryptographic algorithms. The security seal is integrated with an interactive mechanism that allows visitors to check the certificate details, such as the name of the issuer, expiration date, and scope of protection. This gives users the confidence that their data is protected and the website they are visiting is authentic. In the context of Wildcard certificates, the seal provides additional confirmation that both the main domain and its subdomains are covered by the same level of security, which increases trust in the entire website ecosystem. Using a security seal on a website can also have a positive impact on the perception of the company or organization by customers, as it is a clear signal that you care about the privacy and security of your users.

Organization Validation (OV) SSL Certificate

The validation procedure for Certum Trusted SSL Wildcard includes two main stages: domain validation and organization validation. In the case of domain validation, Certum offers two methods: via DNS or e-mail. In the case of the DNS method, the domain owner must add a unique TXT record to the DNS settings of their domain. This record is verified by Certum to confirm that the applicant actually controls the domain and its subdomains. Alternatively, validation by e-mail involves sending a message to the e-mail address associated with the domain, for example admin@domain.pl or webmaster@domain.pl. A reply to this e-mail confirms control over the domain. Once domain validation is complete, the organization is validated. Certum requires the provision of official registration documents that confirm the existence and legal status of the organization. These documents are verified to confirm that the organization is registered and operates in accordance with the law. In some cases, Certum may conduct additional verification by phone, contacting the organization to confirm its identity and data compliance. After both validation stages have been successfully completed, Certum will issue a Wildcard SSL certificate, which secures both the main domain and all of its subdomains. The entire validation process is designed to ensure that the certificate is issued only to authorized entities, which increases the level of security and trust in the website. Whole verification procedure has been described in our Knowledgebase: Validation and verification for Certum Trusted Wildcard SSL certificate.

Important: Wildcard SSL certificates cannot be verified via file method.

Wildcard SSL Certificate

The Wildcard function in the Certum Trusted SSL Wildcard certificate allows you to secure both the main domain and all of its subdomains using a single SSL/TLS certificate. Thanks to this solution, it is possible to protect the entire domain structure without having to issue separate certificates for each subdomain. The Wildcard certificate works by replacing part of the domain name with an asterisk (*), which means that each subdomain at this level is automatically included in the certificate. For example, a certificate issued for *.domain.pl secures both the main domain (domain.pl) and all subdomains, such as sub1.domain.pl, sub2.domain.pl, etc. This function is especially useful for organizations that manage a large number of subdomains, as it allows for simplifying the certificate management process and reducing administrative costs. In addition, introducing new subdomains does not require obtaining additional certificates, which increases flexibility in managing the network infrastructure. Wildcard also provides the same level of advanced encryption and security offered by traditional SSL certificates, ensuring that data transferred between the server and the client is protected.

Supported Browsers and Devices

Certum SSL/TLS certificates are compatible with a wide range of web browsers and mobile devices, ensuring smooth and secure use of secured sites on various platforms. Certum certificates are recognized by major browsers such as Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Edge, Safari, and Opera, ensuring that users of these browsers will not encounter certificate trust issues and connections will be automatically recognized as secure. Compatibility with mobile devices includes both iOS and Android operating systems, meaning that smartphone and tablet users can use secure SSL/TLS connections on sites secured with Certum certificates. These certificates are also compatible with other popular devices such as tablets, desktops, laptops, and some IoT devices that support SSL/TLS standards. High compatibility with a wide range of devices and browsers is possible thanks to Certum certificates’ compliance with the requirements of the CA/Browser Forum and their presence in the main repositories of trusted certificates.
